Just picked up the donation of goods that SSK Europe had waiting for the kids in Ecuador... I am so happy that we bought our Peugeot Rifter and not some small car! Thanks Alex and Ferry (SSK Europe) for the shoes, bats, balls, helmets, gloves, shirts... Did I leave anything out??? My garage is about as full as my car was, so if you still want to make a donation, please help us get all these goods shipped to Ecuador. You can use below link to make your donation! Thanks in advance!!! https://www.geef.nl/en/campaign/honkbal-voor-ecuador
Baseball 4 Ecuador receives 5X5 Empower Award!
Last week, during Young Living Essential Oils' 2019 European convention in Brussels, Baseball for Ecuador was honored with a 5 X 5 Empower Award. Ed Slingerland received the award on behalf of B4E and was touched by the gesture as the project is merely to serve the need for kids in Ecuador to play baseball. We are grateful for all the attention and even more grateful for all the donors that gave so generous. Donations can be made through: https://www.geef.nl/en/campaign/honkbal-voor-ecuador/
Our friends from SSK Europe have given us a lot of stuff... We have to see when we are going to pick it up and especially... Where are we going to leave it, until it can be sent to Ecuador! But that certainly shouldn't spoil the fun! Alexander Spiekerman of Weezelenburg & Ferry neuteboom, thank you very much for your beautiful gesture on behalf of the children of Chongon!!
From tomorrow you can also hand in your donations in the canteen of RCH-Pinguins in Heemstede! Very happy with that, so you don't have to drive halfway across the country for a return point in the neighbourhood.
Thank you RCH-Pinguins!
Generous donation from Forelle during Little League weekend
On the eve of the Dutch Championship Little League in Almere and Huizen we received an email from Teun of Forelle that he would like to donate some stuff for Baseball 4 Ecuador.
We received no less than 6 bags with lots of beautiful stuff: balls, bats, gloves, bases and even batting tees.... Of course we can hardly express our gratitude!
Thank you Forelle!
Teun came to fly out the last day of the Little League Championship to draw everyone's attention again to the fact that until 31-7-2019 you can enjoy the very attractive 30% discount that you can get when you buy your American Sports items at the branch in Alphen aan de Rijn.
On June 8th, 9th & 10th next, during the Dutch Championship Little League in Almere and Huizen, there will be a place where the stuff for Baseball 4 Ecuador can be collected. Thanks you to the organization of the Little League Netherlands for paying attention to our project!
A lot of clothing we got from the Baseball School in the Haarlem region. Since the Rabbits have a new sponsor, they were allowed to donate their old clothes; we received a lot of shirts, caps etc. from them, with a lot of thanks! Thank you Kennemerland Rabbits!
In the May-number we got a whole page to tell Baseball-loving Netherlands about Baseball 4 Ecuador. We can't tell you how grateful we are with friends like Fastball Magazine (André Steensma).
Sport is not a prio...
Sport is certainly not a priority if you live in Chongón, the suburbs of Guayaquil in Ecuador. The children of these vast slums outside the largest port city of Ecuador have a roof over their heads and food; school is compulsory up to the age of 12, but after that the family has to pay a large amount of money per month per child. The Young Living Foundation provides a large number of Chongón's children with free schooling and meals.
When I was in Chongón last year for my work for Young Living, I was able to see everything at first hand. The parents of our sponsor-child work several jobs, the children go to the Academy to get a good education, but their house is no more than 4 walls and a roof.
The same goes for a sports field: a fallow piece of land where soccer and baseball are played, where the goats graze and where the families gather outside for a party.
So I said: "Let's start a program!"
I was very honored when, on behalf of the Young Living Foundation, I was asked to help set up a baseball/softball program for the children of Chongón. Together with the head coach of Plattsburgh State College, Kris Doorey, I will be setting up this program. In the United States, Kris is in the process of raising funds; these are used to create and maintain a real base/softball field.
Because all baseball related articles have to come from the United States and are therefore actually as expensive as what we pay for it here in the Netherlands, I have decided to raise baseball stuff. There is almost nothing there; a few bats, helmets and balls is all they have. Gloves are not there, because they are far too expensive!
I would like to ask all readers to look in the barn, garage, attic or in your baseball bag for a bat that you no longer use, a glove that is too small for you or balls that are lying around after your workout; I would like to take them all with me to Ecuador.
On a number of associations, during the Little League weekend and the Baseball Against Cancer days there is a collection where donated items can be left behind. All these donations I will take with me in November, when we start the program.
Like our Facebook page to increase our reach even more and together give a nice piece of sport to these children.
